The Energy Office is a division of the Arizona Department of Commerce and encourages energy efficiency and renewable-energy usage, provides energy information and policy advice, and supports reduced utility costs and improved comfort for Arizona’s low-income residents.

American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009 Information

The Energy Office is a division of the Arizona Department of Commerce and is receiving $129 million in ARRA funding. This funding will be distributed in staggered amounts by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to the Energy Office and will be administered over a three-year period. Click here for more information.

State Energy Program (SEP)
SEP is an existing program that will be expanded with $55.4 million in ARRA funding. Click here to learn more about programs that will advance energy efficiency and renewable energy projects in Arizona.

1-15-10: The due date for the Renewable Energy for Non-Profit Organizations Request for Proposal has been extended from February 2, 2010 to February 11, 2010. Click here for more information.

1-29-10: An amendment to the Renewable Energy for Non-Profit Organizations RFP has been issued. Contact the Commerce Procurement Office for more information.

Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP)
An existing program that will be expanded with $57 million in ARRA funding. This program provides weatherization services to Arizonans based on income. The WAP has an established local service delivery network comprised of non-profit or governmental organizations that provides services in specific geographic areas of Arizona.

Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program (EECBG)
Funded for the first time by ARRA, the State of Arizona will receive millions of dollar to reduce total energy use and fossil fuel emissions and improve energy efficiency.

Energy Emergency Preparedness
In 2009, the Energy Office was awarded $796,410 in ARRA funding to improve Arizona's emergency preparedness plans and ensure quick recovery and restoration from any energy supply disruptions.

(Energy Star) Appliance Rebate Program

On Monday, December 14, 2009 the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) gave final approval to award $6.2 million to the Arizona Department of Commerce Energy Office to implement Arizona’s Appliance Rebate Program funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. EPA’s Energy Star Buildings Mark a Decade of Savings: Oldest, tallest, largest buildings named [U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Dec. 12] Washington, D.C. - Ten years ago, EPA unveiled a ground-breaking development in energy efficiency for the commercial marketplace – the first Energy Star building. Since 1999, Energy Star partners in the commercial marketplace have helped prevent nearly 120 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent, equal to the emissions from the annual electricity use of more than 60 million American homes. K-12 Benchmarking Effort
The Energy Office, with cooperation from School Districts around the state, is attempting to benchmark each K-12 building. This will allow the Energy Office and each respective district to know how efficiently the school buidlings in each district are performing based on EPA's Energy Star Rating criteria. Get Started:

Community Energy Program (CEP)
This program helps communities develop the necessary tools to engage in local energy infrastructure planning by providing them technical assistance.

Energy Savings Performance Contracting (ESPC)
Technical and program assistance to facilitate energy efficiency programs of all types including Energy Savings Performance Contracting are provided.

Residential Building Science
The Residential Building Science Program works with the building trades to adopt an integrated approach to assessing, correcting and building residential structures based on the “House as a System” framework.

Arizona Home Performance with ENERGY STAR
A training and certification program for professional contractors, weatherization auditors and technicians located in the Southwest.

Energy Conservation Standards for Public Buildings

State Building Efficiency Program
The Energy Office assists state agencies to reduce energy consumption by sponsoring training for facilities staff, conducting walk-thru energy audits of facilities, and providing information on new energy-saving products and green building strategies.

Arizona's Appliance Efficiency Regulations were established by ARS §44-1375 in 2005 and become effective on January 1, 2008.
